How a 75-question test is scored
Divide the number of correct answers by 75 and multiply by 100. With 75 questions worth the same amount, each one is 1.333% of the grade. A 75-question exam spreads the risk thinly: each answer is worth just 1.33%, so you can miss several questions before the letter grade moves.
On the common 90/80/70/60 scale you can miss up to 7 questions for an A, up to 15 questions for a B, up to 22 questions for a C, up to 30 questions for a D. Anything below the D line is an F.
Quick reference for 75 questions
These scores come from the same chart you see in the tool above.
- 0 wrong answers (75 correct) = 100.0%, grade A
- 1 wrong answer (74 correct) = 98.7%, grade A
- 2 wrong answers (73 correct) = 97.3%, grade A
- 3 wrong answers (72 correct) = 96.0%, grade A
- 8 wrong answers (67 correct) = 89.3%, grade B
- 15 wrong answers (60 correct) = 80.0%, grade B
- 23 wrong answers (52 correct) = 69.3%, grade D
- 30 wrong answers (45 correct) = 60.0%, grade D
Rounding and partial credit on 75 questions
Because 75 does not divide 100 evenly, scores are rounded. For example, 9 wrong is 88% exactly and shows as 88.0% rounded to one decimal. The letter is chosen from the rounded value that is displayed.
Half points are possible too: one half-credit answer is worth 0.667%.
Worked example: 9 wrong on a 75-question test
A student misses 9 of 75 questions.
- Correct answers
- 66 of 75
- Percentage
- 88.0%
- Standard A–F
- B
- Plus/minus
- B+
(75 − 9) ÷ 75 × 100 = 88%, so the grade is 88.0% (B).
