How a 100-question test is scored
Divide the number of correct answers by 100 and multiply by 100. With 100 questions worth the same amount, each one is 1% of the grade. A 100-question exam spreads the risk thinly: each answer is worth just 1%, so you can miss several questions before the letter grade moves.
On the common 90/80/70/60 scale you can miss up to 10 questions for an A, up to 20 questions for a B, up to 30 questions for a C, up to 40 questions for a D. Anything below the D line is an F.
Quick reference for 100 questions
These scores come from the same chart you see in the tool above.
- 0 wrong answers (100 correct) = 100.0%, grade A
- 1 wrong answer (99 correct) = 99.0%, grade A
- 2 wrong answers (98 correct) = 98.0%, grade A
- 3 wrong answers (97 correct) = 97.0%, grade A
- 10 wrong answers (90 correct) = 90.0%, grade A
- 20 wrong answers (80 correct) = 80.0%, grade B
- 30 wrong answers (70 correct) = 70.0%, grade C
- 40 wrong answers (60 correct) = 60.0%, grade D
Rounding and partial credit on 100 questions
Because 100 divides 100 evenly, every score is a whole percentage: no rounding is needed.
Half points are possible too: one half-credit answer is worth 0.5%.
Worked example: 12 wrong on a 100-question test
A student misses 12 of 100 questions.
- Correct answers
- 88 of 100
- Percentage
- 88.0%
- Standard A–F
- B
- Plus/minus
- B+
(100 − 12) ÷ 100 × 100 = 88%, so the grade is 88.0% (B).
