How a 5-question test is scored
Divide the number of correct answers by 5 and multiply by 100. With 5 questions worth the same amount, each one is 20% of the grade. On a short 5-question quiz every single answer matters: one missed question moves the score by 20 percentage points, which is often enough to change the letter grade.
On the common 90/80/70/60 scale you can miss no questions for an A, up to 1 question for a B, a C is not reachable with whole questions, up to 2 questions for a D. Anything below the D line is an F.
Quick reference for 5 questions
These scores come from the same chart you see in the tool above.
- 0 wrong answers (5 correct) = 100.0%, grade A
- 1 wrong answer (4 correct) = 80.0%, grade B
- 2 wrong answers (3 correct) = 60.0%, grade D
- 3 wrong answers (2 correct) = 40.0%, grade F
Rounding and partial credit on 5 questions
Because 5 divides 100 evenly, every score is a whole percentage: no rounding is needed.
Half points are possible too: one half-credit answer is worth 10%.
Worked example: 1 wrong on a 5-question test
A student misses 1 of 5 questions.
- Correct answers
- 4 of 5
- Percentage
- 80.0%
- Standard A–F
- B
- Plus/minus
- B-
(5 − 1) ÷ 5 × 100 = 80%, so the grade is 80.0% (B).
